A cooperation agreement between Zhi-shan Project and the central provinces was signed

(Web Quang Tri) On January 8th, 2018, in Dong Ha City (Quang Tri), Project Office of Zhi-shan Foundation Taiwan hold a conference to review the activities in 2017, celebrating the 20th anniversary of Scholarship Project and signing the cooperation agreement between Zhi-shan Foundation Taiwan Project and provinces: Thua Thien Hue, Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Quang Ngai. Participants included Mr. Mai, Standing Member of Provincial Party Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
Zhi-shan Foundation Taiwan (Zhi-shan) is the only non-governmental organization in Taiwan that conducts long-term aid projects in Vietnam (since 1995). At present, Zhi-shan is implementing many components of the project to support disadvantaged children in Thua Thien Hue, Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Nghe An and Quang Ngai in the fields of education and medical.
In 2017, Zhi-shan sponsored a number of support projects for disadvantaged children including: Long-term scholarships for 3,234 poor students from Elementary to University with average 2.5 million VND/child/year. Over the past 20 years, over 7,000 students have been sponsored, 3,600 children have been grown-up and self-reliant, about 80 billion VND have been given to them; The children sposoring project at the center has supported 130 orphan children at the sponsoring center of Thua Thien Hue with the average of nearly 7.5 million/child/year. It has been implemented continuously in the past 19 years; Early Childhood Education Project for ethnic minority children improved malnutrition status for preschool children, enhanced the capacity of teachers, funded the library for children construction... In 2017 there were 6,500 preschool children benefiting from the project, the project has been implemented continuously in the past 14 years; Make Friends with Book Project encouraged the development of reading culture in schools with reading habits for elementary school students, 151 schools with nearly 56,000 students in central provinces were involved in the project; The Free Orthopedic Project provided free surgery to children with disabilities, the Project began in 2001 and supported nearly 2,716 children.
In the early years of the project, 300-400 students were granted scholarships in Hai An, Hai Khe (Hai Lang) and Dakrong District with an annual budget of 1.2 billion VND. the number of students receiving the scholarships reached 1,000, many components of the project has pushed the fund of Zhi-shan up to 5 billion VND per year. For the last 20 years, the Zhi-shan project has provided about 70 billion VND to Quang Tri. Totally, 2600 students benefited from the project, from 2008 to date, 553 students receiving scholarships have passed the entrance exam to high schools, colleges and universities.
The total expenditure of the organization in 2017 in 6 provinces of Central Vietnam is over 16.3 billion VND. With a long-term, stable and effective contribution, Zhi-shan was awarded the 3rd Class Labor Medal by the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in 2016.
At this conference, Zhi-shan and 6 Central provinces, Hope for Children Foundation signed a donation commitment in 2018 with the amount of over 16.4 billion VND, awarded 20 scholarships worth 1.2 million VND/pupil for poor pupils in Hai Lang, Vinh Linh (Quang Tri). On this occasion, the People's Committee of Quang Tri Province and other localities awarded certificates of merit to the contributions of individuals and organizations in recent years.
At the conference, Mr. Mai Thuc, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, highly appreciated the contribution that Zhi-shan made to students in Quang Tri. Educational projects are practical and sustainable with their future.
In addition, Mai Thuc suggested that in the coming time, Zhi-shan would consider granting long-term scholarships for disadvantaged students in Huong Hoa and Dakrong mountainous districts; supporting the construction of pre-school nurseries which have been degraded to disadvantaged communes in Quang Tri Province. He expected further nutrition support from the company to poor children in Dakrong District. The People's Committee of Quang Tri Province is committed to take care and guide the sectors and localities to create favorable conditions for the Zhi-shan organization to continue its effective and sustainable project.
