Geographical location:
Located in the north central region of Vietnam, Quang Tri borders Quang Binh to the north, Thua Thien Hue to the south, Savannakhet to the west and the East Sea to the east, with a total coastline of 75 km.
Quang Tri is located on the North - South highway, the North - South railway and the maritime route. The Province is in the Central economic region and is the first point of Vietnam on the East - West Economic Corridor (EWEC) via the Lao Bao International Border Gate. With a total length of 1,450 kilometres, the EWEC stretches over 13 provinces and cities of four countries, connecting Central Vietnam with Laos, Thailand and Myanmar. It opens up great opportunities for Quang Tri to integrate into the international economy. Receiving concerns of the Government and the Mekong region countries as well as the active support from international organizations such as JICA, ADB, WB, etc., the East - West Economic Corridor has demonstrated its role more and more clearly, became the development orientation for the Central Provinces of Vietnam.
These are the favorable conditions for Quang Tri to develop its infrastructure, international trade, commerce, tourism and investment.

Quang Tri had 349,982 laborers in 2016, 46% were skilled laborers and 34% had completed vocational training courses.
Weather condition
The average annual temperature is from 24 - 25oC in the plain areas, 22 - 23oC in the 500m high areas. Rainy season lasts 3 months (from December to January and February of next year) with low temperature. Average temperature of the coldest month is below 22oC. Dry season is from May to August with the average temperature of 28oC, the highest temperature is 40 - 42oC from June to July.

Potential for tourism development:
Quang Tri is famous for many historical relics such as the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, the Hien Luong Bridge - Ben Hai River Reunification Monument, the Route 9 - Khe Sanh, the Ho Chi Minh Trail, the Ta Con Airport, the Mc.Namara Electronic Fence, the Lao Bao Prison, the heroic Con Co island, ... along with the Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery, the Route 9 Cemetery, has created the uniqueness, peculiarity and attractiveness of the Quang Tri war relics system.
Besides, Quang Tri also has many scenic spots such as the Tram Tra Loc, the Ru Linh primeval forest, the Brai cave... as well as lots of beaches in Cua Tung, Cua Viet, Vinh Thai with their very own beauty: pure white, flat and smooth sandbanks, clean water that not many others possess.
Quang Tri also has many cultural and spiritual monuments, typical folk and revolutionary festivals. Sac Tu - one of the oldest pagodas in Central Vietnam and the Lady of La Vang Pilgrimage Center attract a million followers and visitors from all over the world every year.
With those advantages, Quang Tri has become the bridge linking a lot of famous tourist programs such as "The Central Heritage Road"; "The Legendary Road"; "Commemorating the old battlefields and war comrades". Visitors to Quang Tri shall enjoy unique and particular characteristics of land and people here, as well as the indomitable willpower of Vietnamese people towards independence and liberty of the nation.
Marine resources:
Quang Tri has approximately 75km of coastline and two river estuaries namely Cua Viet and  Cua Tung, a large fishing ground of about 8,400 square kilometres with a variety of seafood (such as black tiger shrimp, cuttlefish, ...). Developing the Fishery, we focus on not only farming and fishing but also the logistical services as well as the protection of Vietnam's sovereignty over the seas and islands. The total value of our fishery products in 2016 was 23,591 tons; Reserve quantity was about 60,000 tons. We also has more than 3,263 hectares of water surface, which provides about 8,056 tons of fishery products like fish and shrimp each year.
Natural resources:
There are large reserves of limestone (over 3 billion tons) with high quality in Tan Lam, Ta Rung, gold in Avao, titanium in Vinh Linh and Gio Linh Districts.  Large silica sand reserves of about 125 million cubic metres in the north and south of Cua Viet and Hai Lang District can be used to produce high - class glass and building materials.
According to the Development Orientation of Vietnam’ Gas Industry (Decision No. 459/QD - TTg dated March 30th, 2011 of the Prime Minister), exploitation of Bao Vang gas mine (in Quang Tri Province) and construction of a gas processing plant with a scale of 1 to 3 billion cubic metres of gas per year will be implemented in the near future.  
- The industrial gas flow at the Bao Vang Deposit reaches 104,500 cubic metres per day, with no CO2 and H­­­2S content. At present, the Joint Operating Company Vietgazprom has surveyed and added geological works in the area of ​​the third exploration well. The design depth of this well is 1600 metres.
- Besides, it is possible to access the Green Whale field, which is about 100km to the east of the Central coast from Quang Tri. The on - site reserve is estimated to be about 150 billion cubic metres. As planned, the project will be operated by the Exxon Mobil Corporation (America). The Exxon Mobil is set to invest in a well head platform for offshore water separation and two underground mining groups, each with four extraction wells and an 88 kilometre - long pipe connecting to the Chu Lai coast. On land, Petro Vietnam will invest in a gas processing factory and a power plant with two generators, which is expected to become operational in 2023.
Transport infrastructure 
Quang Tri is considered as an important transport hub, located on the intersection of major transportation routes of the country like Highway 1A, Ho Chi Minh Road (East Branch and West one), National Route 9 connecting with the trans - Asia road and Highway 15D. Along with North - South railway, Quang Tri has Cua Viet port with the capability of receiving vessels of 5,000 DWT and My Thuy deep - water seaport which is being called for investment to receive vessels of 100,000 DWT. In addition, not far from the center of Dong Ha city to the south are the Phu Bai Airport of Thua Thien Hue (about 80 km) and Da Nang International Airport (about 150 km). Quang Tri has a well - developed transportation system with convenient roads, railways and waterways. District roads connecting with development centers are asphalted. 100% communes have roads usable for cars linking to their centers throughout 4 seasons of year.
Post and Telecommunication system:
Post and telecommunication system has highly developed and covers the whole Province.
Banking system
The banking system has been expanded and modernized, monetary policies of the Government and the State Bank are becoming more and more effective. The Trade Credit has been established and developing effectively, ensuring the safety and catering for the development of production, trade, social security and international integration.
The Provincial State Bank aims at facilitating activities of credit units. The development of commercial banking system has enhancing the quality of life and protecting the environment. We have some famous banks investing in Quang Tri such as Agribank, Vietcombank, Vietinbank, BIDV, Sacombank, VPbank.
Electricity and water supply systems:
Water and electricity supply systems meet the demands of both domestic and business activities.
Enterprises:
Up to 2016, there are 3,080 enterprises operating in Quang Tri with a total registered capital of 7,000 billion VND. In the year 2016, 280 new enterprises were registered.
Total amount of registered projects in the beginning of 2016:
- Over 273 domestic investment projects with a total registered capital of 53,127.88 billion VND;
- 14 active FDI projects with a total registered capital of 46.65 million USD.
- Investment fields: Construction industry; Infrastructure; Agriculture - Forestry - Fishery; Education; Health and Cultural Communication.
The economic structure:
The economic structure of the Province has made many positive changes. The Quang Tri economic structure has moved in the right direction. From 2010 to 2016, proportion of Agro - Forestry - Fishery decreased from 28.9% to 21.76%, proportion of Industry and Construction increased from 35.6% to 40.31%.
Average GDP growth rate:
- The average GDP of 2016 was 16,081 million VND (equivalent to nearly 730.95 million USD). The per capita income was 36 million VND in 2016 (about 1,636.4 USD).
- Total budget revenue of the Province in 2016 was 2,152 billion VND, reaching the ratio of 16.6% per year. Domestic revenue increased continuously over the years, from 748 billion VND in 2010 to 1,852 billion VND in 2016. Industry contributed 7,778.6 billion VND in 2016 (GSS2010), 10.1% higher than that did in 2015; Construction value (current price) reached 8,596.9 billion VND, equivalent to 6,477 billion VND (calculated by the constant price of 2010), 8.2% higher than the previous year; Agro - Forestry - Fishery value in 2016 (GSS 2010) reached 6,379.6 billion VND, 1.6% higher than that in 2015.
Export:
The total export value increased from 63.4 million USD in 2010 to 201.4 million USD in 2016.
Major export sectors goods:
Export value in 2016 of tapioca reached 61.06 thousand tons, equivalent to 21.61 million USD; of Arabica coffee was 5.66 thousand tons in 2016 or 5.722 million USD; of rubber was 18.91 thousand tons in 2016; of wood was 5.5 million USD.
Major import sectors for goods:
Vegetable; wood and wood products.
